CloudGrid Energy co-founder Eric Reisse sat down with TECSOL to explain the conviction behind the company: local, competitive green electricity can become the foundation of a new generation of European digital infrastructure.

In the interview, Eric details our model of deploying high-performance GPU computing units directly at the heart of existing renewable energy assets. He explains why the real bottleneck for AI is no longer the chip but the available energy, and how our co-location approach gives renewable producers a secured offtake over 10, 15 or even 20 years at a price above the spot market.

The conversation also covers what digital sovereignty truly means for European companies and our commitment that local green electrons must always exceed 50% of consumption, with the remainder covered by guarantees of origin.

We have reached a major milestone. CloudGrid Energy and Policloud, a company within the Antimatter Group, have signed a framework agreement for the supply and deployment of 280 Policloud high-performance computing units across Europe by end of 2027, representing a total value of €580 million. The deal was signed in Paris, marking a foundational moment for CloudGrid Energy.

Sixteen sites have already been secured across France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden. Once fully deployed, our network will provide access to 29,000 GPUs and 2,000,000 vCPUs, with a total energy capacity of 35 MW, all powered by renewable energy sources including solar plants, wind farms, biomass facilities and EV charging infrastructure. This infrastructure will be deployed in just 18 months.

Our deployment partners include Urbasolar, one of Europe's leading independent photovoltaic producers. The first unit is already operational at the Bonne Voisine site in the Aube region of France.

This agreement brings our strategy to life: deploying digital infrastructure units directly on renewable energy and EV charging sites across Europe, offering SMEs, startups and European entrepreneurs a sovereign, decarbonized and cost-competitive alternative to non-European cloud infrastructure, enabling them to develop and operate open-source AI models such as Mistral, Nemo and Magistral.

In February 2026, CloudGrid Energy took part in the World AI Cannes Festival (WAICF), held on the French Riviera on February 12-13. Alongside our strategic partner Policloud - a Cannes-based sovereign cloud infrastructure specialist - and Hivenet, we were present at one of Europe's most prominent AI and technology gatherings to showcase a concrete response to the global AI compute and energy crisis.

At the event, Policloud announced a major milestone: the deployment of 100 Policloud units in 2026, representing over 25,000 GPUs, with an ambition to reach 1,000 units and 250,000+ GPUs by end of 2030. CloudGrid Energy is part of this deployment - our first Policloud unit, a Policloud 100, is currently being installed on a wind farm site in France whose power purchase agreement has reached maturity, converting locally-produced renewable electricity into high-value HPC capacity.

The WAICF provided the ideal platform to introduce CloudGrid Energy's co-location model to investors, institutions, and technology leaders - and to demonstrate that sovereign, renewable-powered AI compute is no longer a vision, but an operational reality.
